A secret of an eternal Asian youth

You can assume many reasons, why I came to Asia. But very unlikely you’ll think of this one: to reveal the secrets of Asian beauty and eternal youth! Why do Asian people look unbelievably young for most part of their life?

⠀ The idea of body positivity and cherishing all signs of aging is getting more and more popular among western women. They don’t want to get rid of the wrinkles, cellulite and stretch marks. All of this is seen as the marks of life experience and wisdom. Women want to celebrate them instead of feeling embarrassed and trying to get rid of them. It’s all cool, this idea resonates with me too, but I don’t want to cherish my wrinkles. I do want to get more experience, to become wiser and smarter but more wrinkles - no, frankly speaking. I know, I want to get the best of both worlds!
⠀ So, every time I meet an Asian woman who more or less speaks English, I attack her with a question: what’s the secret of your prefect skin???

⠀ The majority doesn’t want to reveal the secret mumbling something about just applying regular cream or maybe Aloe Vera gel...But finally, my Thai colleague gave me a reasonable answer: I don’t show emotions on my face. You, Western people, are very emotional. All your emotions can be read on your face. We, Eastern people, hide our emotion, we don’t use our face muscles. That’s why our skin is so smooth. Keep your poker face on!

⠀ Voila. Easy peasy. You don’t have to eat snakes for breakfast or use a powder made of cockroaches (yes, these were my assumptions). You just have to stop smiling actively, to express surprise and anger, and to stop rising your eyebrows when you are skeptical!
⠀ But hold on, I’ve heard it already somewhere... Here you go: “don’t frown, you’ll get wrinkles!”, my mom keeps saying. Was it necessary to move to another side of the globe to make sure of it? Yes, it was :)
